Vintage PH5 pendant by Poul Henningsen. Denmark, Louis Poulsen, 1958.
A 'classic white' model with with a blue shade in the middle of the lamp, plus a blue end-plate. Made of powder coated aluminium, this is a beautiful vintage lamp in very good condition. The lamp has one E27 socket.
The PH 5 Suspension Lamp emits lateral light that reflects on itself. This is made possible by its trio of tiered shades.
Often thought of as the classic PH light, the PH 5-4.5 is actually a posthumous design that was developed by Ebbe Christensen and Sophus Frandsen in 1984. It is a modified version of Poul Henningsen's earlier PH 5 pendant light, which was first shown at the Danske Kunstindustrimuseum, Copenhagen, in 1954-56. This earlier glare- free light had a system of tension wires that kept the shades in place and pushed whatever size of bulb into the correct position. The later PH 5-4.5 light has a static construction that is far less tricky to operate. Its upward facing shade is also manufactured in one rather than two pieces.
Good vintage condition.
